Jo Bailey is a blogger and past president of WHPE. She posted her opinion on ‘The Emotions Toolbox’ being brought into physical educations lessons and it caught my interest. The tool kit is meant to help students develop emotional self-regulation skills in PE and Ms.Bailey expressed how the kit is amazing tool where it “would fit in very nicely when teaching stress management strategies.” I often forget the PE and Health coexist and are both important. Physical activity is vital but so is mental health and cognition. The tool kit is significant because some of the stations are activities that occur everyday, but understanding how to use them to manage stress. One example if listening to happy music or reading a silly book. Another station involves playing a game with unfair rules, designed for the students to lose. This kit encourages healthy way to express anger or disappointment when losing, which is vital in not only PE classes but life. This is relevant to me because I often see unhealthy expressions of anger through aggressive when someone loses therefore teaching safe ways to express these emotions are crucial to becoming a positive role model/ PE teacher.
Week Two: Joey Feith on Twitter

Joey Feith is a physical education teacher in Montreal, Canada and the founder of ‘ThePhysicalEducator.com,’ which is a online resource for PE teachers with a huge following of 37k on Twitter alone. Mr.Feith often posts a series of questions that generate replies from people around the world about physical education. One of the question he posted that I found interesting was “What are some examples of resources you use in order to grow as a physical education resource?” This stood out to me because I did not expect his answer to be technology-based tools. He explains how twitter was an amazing platform for discussions that lead to professional development. He also uses Youtube to inspire new ideas as well as motivation, well-crafted videos always leaves him “fired up.” I did not notice the importance of social platforms use in learning and I would like to be able to recognize and continue to use them. This assignment involved following multiple pages in order to gain insight to Physical education, which is exactly what Mr.feith explains is significant to grow as a PE teacher.
Week Three: Nick Spencer on Twitter
Date: February 27th 2019

Mr.Spencer posted eight original written directions for field day activities that were inspired by Dr.Seuss books. Some of the stories he used as inspiration were: “The cat in the Hat, One fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, and Green Eggs and Ham.” This not only shows his dedication to making new and fun games, but also his understanding of incorporating known ideas to the students. Many, if not all, elementary school students have read Dr.seuss books, therefore using them to create games is fun as well as encouraging them to read. I find this relevant because I have not seen this idea in my elementary physical education class, but if I have I can see the excitement of it. This is a concept I would like to learn and be able to use in the future.
Week Four: Dave Carney on Twitter
Date: March 5th, 2019

Mr.Carney shares a short twenty-three second video of about thirty elementary school students participating in ‘Hockey Pin Knockout.’ 15 students are actively participating, while the other half are lined up on the sidelines patiently waiting for their turns. I chose this video because it shows Mr.Carney’s ability to provide a large group of students with an entertaining and movement dense activity all while maintain order and safety. The Teacher is also hear yelling “six down” at the end of the video which demonstrates his attention as well encouragement he provides the students. Encouraging student is a significant concept that I find relevant not only in Physical education but with myself, because I have personally experienced self-confidence growth and motivation through encouragement from PE teachers, therefore I would like to learn ways to do the same for others.
Week Five: Jo Bailey on Twitter

Ms.Bailey shares her updated climbing rubric and student log sheet in this post. These are usually meant to give students the criteria for the activity as well as be able to track their progress. However, her climbing rubric, stood out to me because it includes valuable categorizes that are often overlooked or minimized. Some of the concepts she grades on include movement patterns, movement concepts, health and challenge, respect & etiquette & safety, and working with others. She places importance to each category and has four tiers that students can track their ability to show their understanding of each one. The one that stood out the most was her ‘Health and Challenge’ standard, where she emphasizes the significance of students exploring the different ways to challenge themselves and document the progress. This shows her understanding that each student will find something challenging but she continues to encourage trying. Not only is this concept important in physical education but is relevant to me because I remember the teachers/friends that encouraged me to challenge myself and to document it. Without documentation you are not able to visualize your progress, which is essential because it servers as a motivator to do better/try to do better.
